College Program Success
The Louisiana Automobile Theft and Insurance Fraud Prevention Authority (LATIFPA) has expanded its Auto Theft Education Program to include colleges and universities. On March 31, 2009, LATIFPA participated in a Louisiana State University public safety-sponsored event entitled “Smart Safe Spring Break Festival”, which focused on campus safety.
Vehicle theft and vehicle burglary are growing problems on college campuses. Through this event LATIFPA was able to reach out to over 2000 students and faculty members by providing both technical and written information on vehicle theft prevention.
LATIFPA has upcoming plans to continue this effort by providing its auto theft and vehicle burglary awareness video programs through the Louisiana State University campus public safety Web site.
Plans are underway to conduct similar events at Dillard University in New Orleans, Southeastern University in Hammond, and Southern University in Baton Rouge.
