Auto Theft Education Program
This program is designed to inform and educate middle and high school students about the consequences of auto theft and is presented through the use of two different curriculums. LATIFPA funded and began presenting its curriculum to middle school students in Louisiana in the spring of 2007 and to high school students in April 2008. This type of program explores the relationship among the parties involved when an auto theft occurs and the impact that theft has on the juvenile’s family, the individual victim or family of the victim, and the long-term effect this activity has on the community where the juvenile offender lives.
This program also encourages good driving habits and educates young drivers on how to prevent vehicle thefts. This program is administered by the LATIFPA staff in partnership with judges of juvenile courts, insurance company claim managers and law enforcement officials specializing in auto theft. These curriculums have been presented to 7,625 middle school students, 1,870 high school students, and approximately 2,000 college students in Louisiana. This program is presently available to all schools in Louisiana.
