Grant Parish insurance producer arrested and issued C&D, Commissioner Wooley announces

Released: May 23, 2005

A Grant Parish insurance producer was arrested and issued a cease and desist order today for allegedly misappropriating insurance funds, Commissioner of Insurance Robert Wooley has announced.

The Grant Parish Sheriff’s office arrested Charles David Daniel (51) on 20 counts of bank fraud. Department of Insurance Fraud Unit investigators served Daniel with a cease & desist order and summary suspension of his license when he was extradited to Rapides Parish Jail in Alexandria.

Mr. Daniel, a debit agent, was responsible for securing life insurance for a client in Deville whose monthly premium payment was automatically drafted from a checking account. Daniel allegedly gained access to the client’s account number and caused the bank to transfer approximately $650 from the account to various entities to which Daniel owed debts.

Department of Insurance records show that Daniel held a life and health insurance license from May 2000 until today’s action. His address is listed as 21459 Highway 167 Lot 5, Dry Prong, LA.

Wooley urges consumers who feel uneasy about any insurance-related transaction to call the Department of Insurance Fraud Unit at 225-342-4956. If callers don’t want their names used, they can request that their involvement be kept confidential.
