A former insurance producer in Mansura arrested and issued C&D, Commissioner Wooley announces

Released: July 26, 2005

A former insurance producer was arrested and issued a cease and desist order today for allegedly misappropriating insurance funds, Commissioner of Insurance Robert Wooley has announced.

Gordon Mark Scallan, 39, was arrested by the State Police Fraud Unit and booked into the Avoyelles Parish Jail on charges of forgery, unfair trade practices and theft. At the same time, Department of Insurance Fraud Unit investigators served Scallan with a cease and desist order and summary suspension of his license. The c&d states that he misappropriated funds in the amount of $23,980.84, which he received from a client for the purchase of two life insurance policies.

Department of Insurance records show Scallan held a life and health insurance license from May 23, 1993, until today’s action. Department records list his address as P.O. Box 342, Mansura.

Commissioner Wooley urges consumers who feel uneasy about any insurance-related transaction to call the Department of Insurance Fraud Unit at 225-342-4956 or 1-800-259-5300. If callers don’t want their names used, they can request that their involvement be kept confidential.
