A former insurance producer was arrested and issued a cease and desist order today
for allegedly misappropriating insurance funds, Commissioner of Insurance Robert
Wooley has announced.
Gordon Mark Scallan, 39, was arrested by the State Police Fraud Unit and booked
into the Avoyelles Parish Jail on charges of forgery, unfair trade practices and
theft. At the same time, Department of Insurance Fraud Unit investigators served
Scallan with a cease and desist order and summary suspension of his license. The
c&d states that he misappropriated funds in the amount of $23,980.84, which
he received from a client for the purchase of two life insurance policies.
Department of Insurance records show Scallan held a life and health insurance license
from May 23, 1993, until todays action. Department records list his address
as P.O. Box 342, Mansura.
Commissioner Wooley urges consumers who feel uneasy about any insurance-related
transaction to call the Department of Insurance Fraud Unit at 225-342-4956 or 1-800-259-5300.

be kept confidential.
