Commissioner Donelon & Governor Blanco Urge Quick Reply From
Insurers For Road Home Program Requests

Released: November 22, 2006

Commissioner of Insurance Jim Donelon and Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco have issued an urgent notice to insurance companies with Hurricane Katrina or Rita claims requesting that they expedite all requests they receive from Louisiana's Road Home program.

The Road Home program is designed to help Louisiana residents get back into their homes by compensating eligible homeowners up to $150,000 for their hurricane-related losses, minus any insurance payments (with the exception of contents coverage) that the homeowner received, in accordance with federal regulations. The Road Home program must verify insurance policyholder data with the companies in order to calculate and distribute financial assistance.

Insurers who have not yet designated a Road Home contact person within their company are also being asked to do so as quickly as possible so that Road Home requests can be processed without further delay.

The Road Home program was created by Governor Blanco, the Louisiana Recovery Authority, and the Office of Community Development. The program is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. For more information, visit www.road2la.org.
