Two New Orleans insurance agents were served today with cease and desist and summary suspension orders after both pled guilty to extortion of a public official.
Glenn Michael Davis, 53, and Charles G. Swanson, 61, were both issued a c&d and summary suspension order after pleading guilty to extortion charges in federal court as part of a plea deal with the government in December 2006. Both had previously denied charges of paying kickbacks to a key school official in exchange for lucrative insurance contracts. Davis was also charged with tax evasion. Both men remain free on bond and sentencing is set for March 29, 2007.
Department records show that Davis was issued a life & health license in May 1976 and a property & casualty license in September 1976, both suspended in today’s action. He is listed as president, secretary and sole owner of Century Insurance Agency, Inc. in New Orleans. Century Insurance Agency, Inc. was also served with C&D and summary suspension of all agency licenses.
Records show that Swanson held a life and health license from January 1975 until May 2006, a property and casualty license from August 1986 until May 2005 and an Auto Club license from January 1991 until today’s action. He is listed as secretary, treasurer and sole owner of American Capital Enterprises in the New Orleans and Amite areas, as well as president and sole owner of Key Independent Agency, Inc. in New Orleans. Both of these agencies were also served with c&d and summary suspensions of all licenses.
