Former Shreveport insurance agent
arrested and issued C&D, Commissioner Donelon announces
Released: June 7, 2007
A former Shreveport insurance agent has been arrested, issued a cease and desist
order and served with a $10,000 fine notice today for alleged felony theft and filing
false public documents.
Kristin Lakvold Childers, 42, was arrested today by the State Police Insurance Fraud/Auto
Theft Unit and served by Department of Insurance Fraud Section Investigators with
an order to cease and desist from engaging in the business of insurance and a fine
notice.
It is alleged that Childers submitted a fraudulent license renewal application to
the Department of Insurance in 2004, by not disclosing her prior criminal record.
She also made false statements to two insurance companies with regard to her criminal
background. She is further alleged to have fraudulently written approximately 70
applications for insurance and forged names on the applications for her own monetary
benefit.
Records indicate that in 2003, Childers plead guilty to felony theft in excess of
$500. Department records show that Childers held a Life & Health license from
April 2003 until May 2006.
Commissioner Donelon urges consumers who feel uneasy about any insurance-related
transaction to call the Department of Insurance Fraud Section at 225-342-4956 or 1-800-259-5300. If callers dont want their names used, they can request that their
involvement be kept confidential.
