Released:
September 24, 2009
A
Scott area agent has been arrested, issued a cease and desist order,
summary suspension of his license and fine notice today for
alleged misappropriation of premiums and unfair trade practices.
Carmen Miller, 53, (The Miller Agency) was arrested today by the
Louisiana State Police Insurance Fraud/Auto Theft Squad on one count
of unfair trade practices, and served by Department of Insurance
Fraud Section Investigators with an order to cease and desist from
engaging in the business of insurance, a summary suspension notice
and a $1,500 fine notice.
Miller
is alleged to have collected premiums from insurance consumers
which he did not remit to the insurance company in full.
Department
records show that Miller was issued Property & Casualty
and Vehicle Physical Damage Licenses in December 1982 which were
valid until being summarily suspended today. These licenses will
be permanently revoked in 30 days unless he requests a hearing with
the Department. Records also show he held an Accident & Health
License from November 1979 through April 2008.
Commissioner Donelon urges consumers who feel uneasy about any insurance
related transaction to call the Department of Insurance Fraud Section
at 225-342-4956 or 1-800-259-5300. If callers do not want their names
used, they can request that their involvement be kept confidential.
